Almost there…

I was working on my ollies the last few days. I found a nice short platform to practice on….its less than six inches high, but I haven’t quite landed one yet. I’ve been having to kinda re think the way I’ve been ollie-ing on flat ground. Whenever I actually land on the platform my body wants to lean back, so naturally I fell and bounced on my head a bit.

Took off a day or two after that. My neck was sore as hell. But anyway, so I go this morning to try again, and I’m still trying to get myself to keep going forward and getting my front trucks down once I make it onto the platform. I get SO close….most times I land it, but then I put my back foot down. Grr. I WILL do this. If it takes me all freakin’ summer, I’m going to do this.

Stuff in my way

I don’t know about you guys, but I can’t ollie very well yet. I mean, I can do it, I just can’t seem to ollie ONTO stuff. If I’m rolling toward something that I know I’ll have to get up onto, it kinda freaks me out. :P I’m more focused on not falling over it than ollie-ing onto it. It would be so sweet to be able to do. It’s such a simple trick, but it opens a lot of doors as far as skating goes. I’m gonna make it one of my goals for the summer: stop being a chicken, and just DO it…..

Anyone else have this issue when they were learning to ollie onto stuff? How did you get over it??

Is the one hill in my neighborhood that scares the crap out of me. Not necessarily because it’s steep or riddled with cars, (which it is) but because its on such sketchy asphalt. The ride would be so much sweeter if they’d just re-pave the thing. I hate seeing sweet hills that i know would be excellent to bomb if only they didn’t look like swiss cheese, ya know? Such a waste. I’m working on bumming a camera from someone so i can actually show you guys what im talking about….but yea. Until then, rtfo. -panda

I went to Santa Monica, CA last year for a random 3-day trip. I left Chicago in a snow storm and arrived in 70 degrees and my first view of the Pacific ocean. Very nice. Brought my longboard at the time (a 29inch gravity, good for travelling) and skated up and down the beach, watched the surfers, went down the Venice boardwalk, visited a few skate shops, etc etc.

Couldn’t help but think what it would be like to just get up and go anywhere, anytime. Kerouac style. Just the bare essentials and a longboard. If I was crazy enough, I’d probably still be out there wandering around, skating, going somewhere else, skating, meeting people, moving along, skating. (Ignoring the mountain of debt I’d be leaving behind…that would be waiting for me when i got back, of course.) I don’t know. Maybe there’s a little bit of a restless wanderer in all us skaters. *shrugs*
