SkateForACause is a non-profit organization, yet it’s not established. It’s just one girl trying to give a voice to her parents with her passion for skateboarding and longboarding as this cause involves long distance skateboarding, attempting to skateboard 1,116 miles to Miami, FL from Baltimore, MD raising a goal amount of 50,000 dollars, proceeds going to the two following schools here in Maryland: The Maryland School For The Deaf of Fredrick, MD and The Maryland School for the Blind of Baltimore, MD. I(Bonnie) was raised by hearing impaired parents. Growing up, I didn’t understand, It was until I got older I realized and accepted that this is how it is going to be, it is what it is and I can’t change that. It’s no easy life. I noticed that my parents had so many struggles just cause of their disability and it broke my heart, doing this would give them a voice. Granted, it’s a beautiful life, it made me who I am today, a much stronger, mature person. I’m using my determination and love for skating to all whom are disabled, hearing and visually impaired, to the people who know what it’s like to grow up with disabled parents, relatives or friends, to feel that frustration and heartache is something no one wishes on anyone. I hope to one day be able to raise funds for the deaf and blind schools/centers all over the country, by just skateboarding. You’re not alone, this is my way to give back to you and I’ll try my best to make it happen. It’s a dream destined to be made into reality.
